BSN Program Outcome 2- Integrate reliable evidence from multiple perspectives to inform practice & make reasonable clinical judgments.
This objective was covered in every course during the BSN program. For the majority of the assignments credible sources with up to date information are required. This has required continuous research to find, review, and evaluate scholarly articles to be used.
Achieving this outcome was a process that has been built upon in each and every class, but nursing research played an important role. This class required finding multiple different resource types, learning how to identify credible sources, and synthesizing the information learned. I was able to implement these skills while writing a paper last semester that dealt with diabetes insipidus. For this assignment I had to find current, up to date, and credible information about the disease. This paper focused on the disease process, signs and symptoms, and treatment options available. The difficult part is learning how to apply this information to clinical judgments, but this becomes easier when you are able to determine key information, and utilize different perspectives.
This is something that is invaluable and will be used continually throughout my career. Things in the healthcare world are continually changing and evolving, which requires near constant education to stay up with current evidence. The skills I have learned in this program will, and have helped to motivate me to continue learning, and I plan to continue this as I go forward in my career.
